Shirley Irene Horne of Guthrie, OK was born on September 28, 1939 in Tulsa, OK and passed away November 14, 2012 in Oklahoma City, OK. She lost her courageous battle with cancer, but she never lost her faith. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband of 47 years, Charles, in his career in the Air Force. He preceded her in death in 2001.
Shirley was born to Raymond Carnes and Erma (Kelly) Carnes Nierman. She had three siblings: Everett Carnes of Georgetown, TX, Donna Howerton of Tishomingo, OK, and Wanda Farris who precedes her in death.
She is also survived by four children Charles Horne, Jr. of Huntsville, TX, Belinda Merkel of Edmond, OK, Tim Horne of Topeka, KS, and Tina Horne of Huntsville, TX; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Reverend Eugene Jones and Revered Ronald Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Visitation will be held Friday, 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
