Emma Pearl Hopkins

Born: December 12, 1916
Died: February 08, 2011

Emma P. Hider was born December 12, 1916 in Meridian, OK to Gabe and Maggie Hider, she was the youngest of eleven children.

She attended school at Sunrise School in Meridian. She accepted Christ at an early age at the Sunrise Baptist Church. She later moved to Guthrie, OK where she united with the Mt. Olive Friendship Baptist Church in 1943 and was a faithful member until her death.

She later met and married the love of her life Wilford Hopkins, in 1935. To this union five sons and three daughters were born.

She worked as a domestic worker for Dr. Elton LeHew for nearly twenty years and later served as a Dorm housekeeper at Langston University where she retired.

She is preceded in death by her husband Wilford, her parents and all her siblings and three sons Lawrence, James and Herbert. She leaves to cherish her homegoing, two sons Merle (Joyce ) Wichita, KS, Elbert (Martha) Caledonia, MS, three daughters Velma Hightower (Clyde -deceased) O'Fallon, IL, Christine Hathorne (Chester) Oklahoma City, OK, Sharon C. of Oklahoma City, twenty grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Wake services are planned for Sunday, February 13, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, February 14, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. Both services will be at the Mt. Olive Friendship Baptist Church, 521 South Ash, Guthrie.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
