Larry L. Holden Sr.
Larry L. Holden Sr. went to a better life, surrounded by his loving family on July 13, 2017. He was born on February 9, 1939, in Bluejacket, Oklahoma to Fred Holden and Sarah Elizabeth (Kimble) Holden. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tyndal.
Larry grew up on a farm in Bluejacket Oklahoma around a large family that settled the area in the early 1900's. He followed his big sister Shirley to Chickasha Oklahoma where he met his wife Sharon. They soon married after high school moving to Oklahoma City and started a family and career. Larry was one of the very first employees of the Western Electric Oklahoma City Works in 1957, retiring 38 years later in 1995. His family was proud of the fact that during his tenure he signed every labor contract on behalf of all the employees, either as a union representative or a company labor relations supervisor.
Larry was known to all his friends and relatives for his generosity of spirit, strength of character, and stubborn can-do attitude. He had a green thumb and loved to garden, being especially proud of his tomatoes. He always loved to build things, create and tinker, resulting in many hobbies through the years. He excelled in carpentry and mechanical pursuits. His children and friends could always look to him for good advice and guidance.
He waged a determined battle against illness for many years and provided an example for those he left behind, of bravery, determination, dignity and triumph over adversity. He never succumbed to despair and remained unbroken to the end. As we watched over him with love and devotion, he became tired of the battle and decided to take God's hand and go home to rest from a life well done.
Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home, 3 children: Larry & Joyce Holden, Guthrie, OK, Greg Holden, Guthrie, OK, and Skoshi & Mike Heron, Edmond, OK; 7 grandchildren: Heather Eldredge, Gabrielle Holden, Logan Holden, Justin Holden, Chase Holden, Karsen Heron, and Emersen Heron; 3 great grandchildren; 1 sister: Shirley E. Wilson; as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
Interment of ashes will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Summit View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
