Funeral services for Phillip Wayne Herbert, 75, of Guthrie, OK will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 30, 2009 at First Christian Church with Dr. Dennis E. Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Phil was born on October 3, 1934 in Guthrie to David Glen and Bertha Mae (Kelso) Herbert. He died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 in Guthrie.
Phil married Dorothy Marie Sunderland on March 10, 1954 in Guthrie. He retired in 1981 after working 20 years as a Guthrie Firefighter, and serving the last five years as Fire Chief. Phil also worked for the Logan County Sheriffs Department under J.C. Burris and Doug Powell. He enjoyed raising cattle and planting wheat and raising hay until retiring in 2005.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Herbert; one daughter Phyliss Stroup; three granddaughters Jackie Ross and husband Jim, Jeana Backus and husband Matt, and Jamie Pena and husband Earnesto; four great-grandchildren Hannah Ross, Hollie Ross, Nikolas Pena, and Brayden Pena; two sisters Patricia Sanders and Glennette Meredith; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents and twin brother Gordon Herbert.
