Jon G Gumerson

Jon G. Gumerson, 76, passed away on October 6, 2012. He was born March 6, 1936 in Tonkawa, OK to Ralph and Mabel Gumerson.
Jon served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves as a Captain. He married the love of his life and best friend, Barbara Beyer, and recently celebrated the 56th anniversary on August 15, 2012. Jon worked with his father and took over the family business – Gumerson Insurance and retired in 2000. He was a loyal and very active member of First Christian Church of Guthrie where he served as an Elder. He served as a vice-mayor of Guthrie for one year, and mayor of Guthrie for seven years. He was very active in the Guthrie community as a civic leader.
Jon graduated from the University of Oklahoma and has been a loyal and active alumni and donor. He loved his church, OU sports, yard work, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.
Jon received many honors including Mayor of the Year for Oklahoma in 2004, Sam Walton Business Man of the Year, and 33 Degree Scottish Right Mason. He was a Shriner and member of India Temple. He was active in Lions Club and was the Cat in the Hat for the Guthrie Schools. He was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Jon was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all. His laughter and smile will be missed by all who knew him.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Mabel Gumerson, sister Patti Gipson, and daughter Gina Lynn Gumerson.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Barbara of the home; children Ginger Hines, Diane Simpson, and Gregg Gumerson and wife Debbie all of Guthrie; two grandsons Dustin Porter and Greg Hines; two great-granddaughters Reese Porter and Avery Hines; and a host of other loved family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 11, 2012 at First Christian Church with Dr. Dennis Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Rite-Care c/o Scottish Rite Temple, or for West Nile Virus research c/o Babs Gumerson.
