Dollie Ethel Groom
Born: April 02, 1914
Died: December 13, 2008

Dollie Ethel Groom died at 8:14 am on Saturday, December 13, 2008, after a brief illness. A long time resident, Dollie was known as one of Guthrie’s most active, beautiful, and gracious ladies. With her friendly manner, sharpness of mind, and unusual wit, she earned the respect and admiration of all who were fortunate to meet her. Dollie was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Dollie was born on April 2, 1914, in Bridgeport Corners, Illinois, to Vaughn Ralph and Dollie E. Wentworth Ralph. She was the youngest of four children. Her brothers, Harold, Steve, and George, preceded Dollie in death. The only living blood relative of the Ralph family is her niece, Norma, who is married to Vic Harrod of Lawrence, Kansas.

Dollie married John Groom on December 30, 1933. They were happily married until his death in 2002. During John’s long illness and following his death, Dollie resided with her daughter Dollie Canfield and husband Michael in Guthrie. Dollie Groom was a member of Community Church in Guthrie, whose pastor is Bill Williams.

John and Dollie Groom had three sons and twin daughters: Vaughn and wife Ginny of Burleson, Texas, Ron and wife Edna and Steve and wife Jean, both of Guthrie, Dollie and husband Michael Canfield of Guthrie, and Barbara and husband Glen Chapman of El Reno.

Grandchildren are John Groom and wife Johnna of Richardson, Texas, Lygia Lovelace and husband Ken of Garland, Texas, Susan Groom of Guthrie, David Groom of Studio City, California, Cathie Smith and husband Chris of Caceres, Spain, Brian Canfield and wife Audra of London, England, Heather Liggett of Durango, Colorado, Michael Chapman of El Reno, Shannon Chapman of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jason Chapman and wife Laci of College Station, Texas.

In addition to 10 grandchildren, Dollie is survived by 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held at Summit View Cemetery, Friday, December 19, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home. A Memorial Service, open to the public, will be at Community Church at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2008 with Pastor Bill Williams officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial gift be made to either the Community Church of Guthrie or to a charity of your choice.
