Gordon Gibson
Born: October 29, 1947
Died: October 23, 2015

Gordon Wayne Gibson known to his family and friends as "Speedy" slipped into our Heavenly Father's arms on October 23, 2015. He was born on October 29, 1947 to Gordon and Ruby Gibson in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

After graduating from Guthrie High School he completed a degree in History Education from Central State University. He began his teaching career at Hoover Junior High in Oklahoma City. He later accepted a teaching position at Hefner Junior High and Putnam City where he taught Oklahoma History. He was proud to be in Oklahoma and loved to talk about our state’s history. Any trip around our state always included a mini history lesson. His love of teaching Oklahoma History was recognized with the Gaylord Oklahoma History Teacher award. While at Hefner he introduced his classes to Project Business. Junior Achievement honored him with a Decade of Excellence Award. His peers at Hefner voted him Teacher of the Year in 1979 and 1992. He later taught senior government at Putnam City North High School. While at Putnam City North he was awarded a Golden Apple. For 15 years, he spent Spring Break in Washington D.C. with students who were interested in actually seeing what they had learned being put into practice. Whether he was impersonating Elvis or a Marx brother or sharing his love of history he was a favorite of his students.

For the past several years, Gordon worked at the Chesapeake Arena doing security for concerts and Thunder basketball, where he was affectionally know as “The G Man”.

Gordon loved all sports. He played baseball while in school and he coached both wrestling and golf. He was an avid golfer who loved playing the courses around Oklahoma. He was proud of his two Hole-in-One plaques from Cedar Valley golf course. Gordon loved his God, his family, and his friends. He was blessed to be a part of a close knit church family as well as close personal friends. He loved his wife, his daughter, and his grandson. He loved showing his grandson Colorado, Sea World, Chicago White Sox baseball, and Washington D.C..

He is survived by his wife Kathy, his daughter Sarah, and her husband Scott, their children Trevor, Kylie, and Kaden of Indiana. His sister Mary Maupin and her husband Jim of Guthrie, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM on Monday, October 26, at First Southern Baptist Church in Guthrie, Ok. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, OK.
