Clyde Edward Gage was born on December 2, 1927 to Lonnie Leroy Gage and Edith Melcenia Moore in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Surrounded by his loved ones, Clyde departed this life May 1, 2008, at his home in Guthrie, Oklahoma, at the age of 80. He fought a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Clyde graduated from Blanchard High School and joined the United States Army Air Corps on April 15, 1946 where he served overseas in the Philippines Islands. He received an honorable discharge on September 23, 1947.
Clyde married Myrna Loy Green on February 14, 1948 in Crystal City, Texas. They moved to Guthrie in 1957. Clyde and Myrna were married for 28 years and celebrated the birth of 2 children. Clyde worked in the oil business as a rough neck and in 1962 began the Aerial Spraying of Guthrie business with his step-father Russell Craig. His latest employment was as a crane operator. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 627, from which he retired in March 1998. Clyde was also a member of Guthrie Masonic lodge for many years.
In 1978, Clyde met his present wife, Joyce Laverne Hill. They enjoyed 29 happy years together. Clyde enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, camping, and gardening which included mowing his 2 acres of land, and growing an abundance of vegetables.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna Gage; his father, Lonnie Gage; step-father, James Craig; and his mother Edith Craig. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of the home and three children: Ronney Edward Gage and his wife, Marilyn, of Guthrie, Oklahoma; Kimberly Ann Crick and her husband, Nolan of Guthrie, Oklahoma; Joyce Ellen Welch and her husband, David of Beaver, Oklahoma.
Clyde has 9 grandchildren: Craig Gage, Marcy Gage, Rabecka Ross, James Gage, Jill Ferris, Seth King, Michael Crick, Tyler Welch and Nicole Welch. He has 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Other survivors include 2 half-sisters: Jeanette Depencier of Bakersfield, California; Caroline Grubb of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and one step-brother, Jimmy Burns of Walters, Oklahoma.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 5, 2008, at the Smith Memorial Chapel in Guthrie with Dr. Dennis Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
Visitation for friends and family will be held Sunday, 1:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. and Monday, 8:30 A.M. till 1:30 P.M.
