Wilma Beth Eyster of Guthrie, Oklahoma deceased at age 87 on March 6, 2010 at Colonial Estates. Wilma was born in Leedey, Oklahoma on September 11, 1922 to Jack and Cressie Albright. Wilma wed George M. Eyster on September 8, 1940 in Thomas, OK and lived in Thomas until they moved to a farm east of Guthrie in 1952. She is survived by her children Ron and Jan Eyster of Longmont, Colorado, Ken Eyster of Guthrie, and Karen Price of Guthrie; eight grandchildren Kenton and Stephanie Harlan of Yukon, OK, Ryan and Marti Eyster of New York, Amy and Chris Jensen of Virginia, Amber Eyster of Colorado, Kimberley and Jacob Moore of Oklahoma City, OK, Craig Eyster of Washington D.C. , Melanie and Jacob Fehler of Colorado and Melinda and Paul Conley of Colorado, and seven great-grandchildren. She was fondly called “Gran Gran” by her grandchildren, a name created by her firstborn grandson, Kenton. She was preceded in death by her husband, George on July 15, 1996, her son Robert on January 9, 1997, five sisters, and four brothers.
Wilma was a special education teacher’s aid at Guthrie Public Schools for 12 years and retired in 1987. She was an active member of the Riverside Homemaker’s Club for 50 years, and attended the First Christian Church of Guthrie. Wilma was a talented and avid gardener, homemaker and marvelous cook. Wilma’s cinnamon rolls were known and loved by all who knew her. Wilma also loved animals and always had her favorite dog or cat on her lap.
Funeral services will be held at Smith Memorial Chapel, Guthrie, on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Services will be conducted by Dr. Dennis Clark of the First Christian Church, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie. Donations to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 are requested in lieu of flowers.
