Melvin Roy Daniels
Born: June 03, 1925
Died: March 15, 2008
Melvin R. Daniels passed into the Lord’s hands Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the age of 82. He was born June 3, 1925 to Nollie and John Daniels in McLoud, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of seven children.
His career with the Guthrie Fire Department started when he was 18 years of age. Then he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Seabee. To this marriage were born five children.
While owning and operating the cab company in Edmond, Melvin continued working at the Guthrie Fire Department. Later they sold the cab company and moved to Guthrie. Melvin was promoted to Fire Chief in Guthrie where he served 13 years as chief. After 23 years he retired and was employed by the Guthrie Job Corps as head of security while owning Daniels’ Transfer & Storage and Daniels’ Cafe on Harrison.
He not only knew hard times (the depression, WWII and death of loved ones) but he also enjoyed to the fullest the many gifts of life (love of a devoted wife and children). And now he has reached the pinnacle of his Christian faith. Melvin was a devoted and faithful member of the Poplar/Warner Church of Christ where he was instrumental in overseeing the construction of the current church building.
