Noelene Conner
October 21, 1938 - October 13, 2016
Noelene "Nene" Conner was born to Noel and Frances Datin in Guthrie, OK on October 21, 1938. A beloved wife, mother, and teacher, she passed away in Oklahoma City on October 13, 2016.
Noelene and Steve Conner first met in Guthrie over 70 years ago while in Kindergarten. After being high school sweethearts, they graduated from Guthrie High School in 1956. They attended the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority, and received her degree in Elementary Education in 1961. Following their graduation, they married on January 28, 1961 and headed to California, where Steve entered active service in the United States Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer. After their first two children Ellen and Michael were born, they moved back to Oklahoma where they had two more children, David and Scott. Noelene spent much of their early years together as a preschool teacher and soon became a beloved Kindergarten teacher for over 25 years in both Oklahoma and Texas. After retiring, Noelene and Steve moved back to Guthrie where she had a deep love for the history and the people of her hometown. She was a member of the Jonquil Garden Club, God’s Food Bank, the First United Presbyterian Church of Guthrie, and PEO sorority, which is an organization that provides educational opportunities for girls worldwide.
Noelene was preceded in death by her parents, Noel and Francis Datin, as well as her sister Gloria, nephew Noel and her youngest son Scott.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years Steven Conner, her three children Ellen, Michael, and David, 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She is also survived by her niece Mary Broderick, her nephew Robert Porter, and their 8 children.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016, 1:00 pm, at the First United Presbyterian Church of Guthrie. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
Visitation will be open to the public from 12:00-8:00 pm.
