Funeral services for Leo Chappell, age 86, a lifelong resident of Guthrie, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Southern Baptist Church, Rev. David Nolan will officiate. Burial will be in Summit View Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home.
Leo was born May 9, 1914 in southern Logan County. He died Monday, October 2, 2000 at Golden Age Nursing Home.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Janice "Bennie" Chappell on October 2, 1999; his parents, Hollie and Myrtle Chappell and one brother, Herman Chappell.
He is survived by one son, Hollie and his wife, Mary Lou, of Guthrie; one brother, Waylon Chappell and his wife, Opal, of Guthrie; one sister, Bertha Lea Taylor of Guthrie; three grandsons, Joe Chappell, Jeff Chappell and his wife, Debbie, Joh Chappell and his wife Sharla; one granddaughter, Jan Crockett and husband, Rusty; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; Paul Smith and wife, Audrey and Roy Hallett.
Memorials may be made to the Cottonwood Clinic of Guthrie.
Friends may call at Smith Funeral Home from 11 a.m. Wednesday until 9 a.m. Thursday. The casket will not be opened after the service.
