Gordon Olaf Carroll
image
Born: January 06, 1952
Died: April 15, 2016

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered come with me. With tearful eyes we watched you pass away. Although we love you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove He only takes the best.

Gordon Olaf Carroll joined his Heavenly Father on Friday, April 15, 2016, surrounded by many family members. The son of Ira Olaf Carroll and Leona Violet (Mills) Carroll of Guthrie, Oklahoma, he entered into this world on January 6, 1952. Gordon lived his farm life with Down syndrome and beat the odds of expected longevity. Although he struggled with health issues, which even those of us who are closest to him cannot fully comprehend, there was never a day he didn’t have his wonderful, bashful smile. His smile would light the entire room. He had a genuine love of life. He always made us laugh, when things looked dark. He was a fighter, when he had health problems; he often amazed those around him beating the odds that were stacked against him. He had a heart full of love, of kindness and of caring.

Gordon was a teacher in many ways; he showed us all the magnificence that can be found in the smallest of things: the breeze in his hair, the sun on his face, a sneeze or cough, an afternoon car ride was a cause to celebrate. We learned the true meaning of patience and happiness; the gift of giving and receiving unconditional love and the ability to be happy.

Gordon especially loved to travel, whether it was by car, by RV or by bus. Besides traveling, he loved to play Indian with his full feather head-dress and drum. He also loved to play with John Deere toys, Hot-Wheel cars, Helicopters, Batman, Superman, Spiderman and Star Wars memorabilia, especially Darth Vader. He was our superhero and little alien; he truly was out of this World! He was the best brother a sibling could ever have. Although Gordon has gone home to be with his Heavenly Father, he will be missed dearly. We look forward to the day when we will be reunited with him for eternity. Gordon is now our Guardian Angel.

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Ira Olaf Carroll and Leona V. (Mills) Carroll; and his grandparents John and Ethel Carroll and Albert and Della May Mills.

Gordon is survived by his Legal Guardian, trustee and sister, Alice Noreen Clouse and her husband, James Clouse, Edmond Oklahoma; a sister, Kathleen Smedley and husband Raymond; two brothers, Evert Carroll and wife Mariann; and, Donald Carroll and wife Cynthia all of Guthrie Oklahoma. Nephews Lance Clouse, Howard Carroll, Brian Smedley, Earl Smedley, Justin Smedley and Darren Smedley all of Guthrie, Oklahoma; Nieces Teresa Childers, Aurora, Colorado; Pamela Jones, Edmond, Oklahoma; Brenda McBride, Guthrie, Oklahoma; and Amanda Allen, Moore, Oklahoma. He is also survived by Aunt Cathy Carroll, Alexandria, WV, and, Aunt Roberta Mills, Gates, Oregon; and, by numerous great nephews, great nieces and extended family members.

A special "Thank You" to the Willow Creek Health Care facility staff for providing a loving and caring home and to the Companion Hospice staff for the love and care provided in his final days.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, Oklahoma . Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.
