Mass of Christian Burial for Oscar Emil Burst, 94, of Guthrie, Okla. will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 1999 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guthrie officiated by Rev. Denis G. Hanrahan. Burial will be in Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Guthrie. Oscar was born March 21, 1905 to Otto and Anna (Ess) Burst on the family farm northeast of Guthrie in Oklahoma Territory. His gentle spirit went to the Lord on Dec. 2, 1999.
Oscar married Lava (bie) Grapes on June 15, 1929 in Chickasha, Okla. She preceded him in death on Sept. 23, 1992.
Oscar also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jim; grandson Gregory Lundy and nine brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughter Barbara Fishkin and her husband Steven of Oklahoma City; son Richard Burst and wife Judy of Raymondville, Texas; daughter-in-law Margie Burst of Venice, Fla.; 11 beloved grandchildren and two step-grandchildren who gave him much love and joy; eight great-grandchildren who surrounded him with happiness and fun, six great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Julia Ann Schwemin and many nieces and nephews that were so loving to him.
Oscar loved giving to others. He was very active in St. Mary's Parish for many, many years. He loved baseball and until the day he died, he wore his Texas Rangers baseball cap. His story telling and his wit gave us such pleasure and laughter. We thank you for your grace and we know you are at peace. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 12 noon until 8 p.m. on Sunday.
A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Davis Funeral Chapel.
