Donald Gene Bross was born November 28, 1932 and by the Grace of God and calling upon the promise of his Lord, Jesus, moved into his Heavenly home on January 5, 2016. Donald was born in the Seward Community, Logan County, to Eugene and Louise Bross. After finishing eight grades at Seward, a one-room country school, Donald graduated from Guthrie High School and completed two years at The University of Oklahoma.
Donald married his high school sweetheart, Dixie Lee Ross, and they had four children, Ted, Larry, Del, and Patti. Following Dixie’s death, Donald married Louise Dixon of Shawnee. Following Louise’s death, Donald married Jean McCurdy of Mulvane, Kansas.
After 32 years of working as a lineman, telephone installer and various management jobs for Southwestern Bell Telephone, Donald retired. This gave him an opportunity to write books, an endeavor he thoroughly enjoyed and one at which he had some success, albeit limited. He loved studying his Bible, was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Guthrie and was active in the Telephone Pioneers.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Dixie and Louise, as well as his son, Larry Don. Also, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Thilbert Kelso and his brother-in-law, Raymond Young.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home, his son, Ted and wife, Pam, of Oklahoma City, OK, his son, Del of Guthrie, OK, and his daughter, Patti Myner and her husband, Greg, of Oklahoma City. Also, he is survived by his sister, Gloria Young and his brother, Tom Bross and Tom’s wife, Johnnie. In addition, he is survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 11, 2016 at the First Christian Church. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Visitation will be held Sunday, 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 402 East Noble Avenue, Guthrie, OK 73044.
