Lester Clifford Branch, age 83, passed away May 8th, 2018 at his home in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He was born September 8th, 1934 to Clarence S. and Ethel P. Branch in Ada, Oklahoma, the fifth of eleven children.
A longtime Guthrie resident, Lester graduated from Guthrie High School in 1952, and in that same year married his wife of 65 years, Marilyn Smith. He served in the US Army and Oklahoma National Guard and was honorably discharged. He owned and operated Branch Oil Company in Guthrie. An avid golfer, he was a lifetime member of the Guthrie Golf and Country Club and a longtime member at Oak Tree. He was a fan of the Oklahoma Sooners, enjoyed bridge, golf junkets, travel to sporting events or to visit friends, and an annual holiday trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with family and friends.
Lester is preceded in death by his parents, son Robert Branch, son Vernon Branch, brother Vernon Branch, sister Carolyn Hall, and sister Norma Phillips.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of the home, son Howard Branch and wife Jayme of Guthrie, son Brian Branch of Oklahoma City, daughter Leslie Rhinehart and husband Jack of Guthrie, son Michael Allen and wife Nikki of Fortney, Texas, grandchildren Thomas Branch, Rachel (Branch) Black and husband James, Ryan Rhinehart, Sarah Rhinehart, Miranda Allen, Mitchell Allen, and seven siblings Mary Jo Stockwell, Clarence Branch, Janis Hunt, Charles Branch, Benjamin Branch, Judy Thomas, and Joyce Hunt.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Logan County Youth and Family Services Serving Logan in Lester's memory.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 11th from 12 P.M. until 7 P.M. The casket will not be open.
A private graveside service and burial for the family will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 12th at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie, Oklahoma with Rev. Mike Jasper officiating. Following the service, all friends and family are invited to a celebration of Lester's life at the Guthrie Golf and Country Club beginning at noon.
Services are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
