Leatrice Modeane Bertwell was born on November 9th, 1927 in Alex, Oklahoma, to John Wesley and Cledeath Lavelle (Mowdy) Carter and went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2016 in Guthrie, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years.
Modeane was a loving wife of 71 years, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to a host of many. Today we celebrate the life of Modeane, whom during her life worked several jobs. One that she dearly enjoyed was Lentz Department Store, where she loved to serve and visit with many that came. When the children started to school she became a stay at home mom.
Modeane loved the Lord and enjoyed life to its fullest. She was a member of The Noble Avenue Baptist Church where she was baptized many years ago.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Cledeath Lavelle Carter of Chickasha Oklahoma, two daughters, Francis Eugenia and Deborah Kay Bertwell of Guthrie.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Bertwell of the home, two sons Danny Bertwell, and wife Kathy, Gene Bertwell, and wife Kathy, three daughters, Vickey Lawson and husband Roger, Terry Ward and husband Jerry, and Denise Lowder and husband Bryan and fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Gene Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, 2:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and Thursday, 8:30 A.M. - 1:30 P.M.
