Billy Eugene Bertwell received his wings after a long life of ninety-three years in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his loved ones on October 5th, 2020. Bill was blessed by those who cared and loved him during his end of time, loving daughters, sons, Companion Team, and his granddaughter and great-granddaughter, 3 year old Kaylee Grace who he loved dearly and brought a smile to his face each day he saw her, and Kaylee loved her Papa too. Bill was born March 22, 1927 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Bertie and Linnie Bertwell.

Bill attended Guthrie Public Schools during his childhood until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1954 during World War II. After the war he married the love of his life Leatrice Modeane Carter and they settled in Guthrie where he held jobs with Jack Talbot and Bion Acton in the Furniture Store Business. After a lengthy stay in the furniture business he applied at Tinker Field in Oklahoma City where he was employed for 23 years, during that time he earned his title of Unit Chief of The Plating Unit.

Bill and Modeane were married 76 years on October 7th 2020. Bill was a member of the VFW Post, American Legion Post and a 32 Degree Mason, all of Guthrie, Oklahoma.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Eugenia Bertwell and Deborah Kay Holt, and granddaughter Louran Lowder, two sisters, Norma Jean Hamilton and Aliene Hulme, two brothers, Leo(Buster Bertwell) and, Donald (Donnie Bertwell).

Surviving are his sons, Danny Allen Bertwell and wife Kathy, Billy Eugene Bertwell Jr. (Gene).and wife Kathy, his daughters, Vickey Lawson and husband Roger, Terry Ward and husband Jerry and Denise Lowder and husband Brian.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Aaron Smith, Kyle Ward, Scott Ward, Casey Ward, Justin Lawson, Kristey Harper, Mark Lawson, Allen Bertwell, Bret Bertwell, Angela McPhail, Michael Bertwell, Suzanne Aitken, and TJ Templeton as well as many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews all of whom he loved dearly.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday October 10, 2020 at Remnant Church, 2423 West Noble, Guthrie, Oklahoma 73044. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Friday, 2:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. and for the safety of our guests and staff are limited to 5 people at a time. Please wear a mask if you plan to attend Bill's visitation.
