Diane Ava Barber
Born: December 22, 1970
Died: October 30, 2014

Diane A. Barber, 43, passed away on October 30, 2014, in Guthrie, Oklahoma after a long and difficult battle with cancer. She was born in Guthrie on December 22, 1970.

Diane was a mother, sister, daughter, and personal friend to many. She was surrounded by those she loved, including her closest and dearest friend, Melissa Fessler. Diane lived in Oklahoma all 43 years of her short, but meaningful life. She lived to make her children, family, and friends happy. She was a devoted mother who would do anything for her children and loved ones. Her life could be described in five simple words: generous, thoughtful, kind, loving, and compassionate. She epitomized these five words in all that she did. She worked at the Department of Human Services, and for her it was far more than a job—it was her opportunity to connect with other like-minded professionals—co-workers she loved and admired—all dedicated to helping others. Diane was described as the face of the organization; she was the first person applicants would see when they came to the office seeking assistance. She was focused, intuitive, and a diligent advocate for all who came. She worked tirelessly to ensure those needing assistance were matched with the appropriate services and followed up continuously until assistance was provided. Her efforts were noble, noteworthy, and inspirational to those around her who witnessed her dedication and commitment to helping others.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Donald Barber and brother Glen Gibson.

She is survived by: her children Kaleb and Raymond; mother Carolyn; father Bill; brother David; sisters Casey, Carrie, and many loved family members and cherished friends.

A graveside service will be held for Diane at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie, at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 1, 2014. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance.
