Bernice Scheihing

Bernice Dreessen Scheihing, 91, of Guthrie, OK passed away January 2, 2011. She was born January 6, 1919, in Navina, OK to Bat and Goldie Dreessen.
Bernice graduated from Central State College with her Bachelor’s degree in 1940. She taught one and a half years at Coyle, OK before getting married to Henry W. Scheihing "Bud" in 1942. She became a wife and mother and started her family. In 1970 she went back to Central State College and received her Master’s degree in Education and Certificate in Special Education and Learning Disabilities. Bernice taught at Cotteral, Banner, Central, Guthrie Junior High, and Favor. With all her years of teaching, she also received Teacher of the Year and was the Featured Cook in the Logan County News.
She is preceded in death by her husband Henry in 1998, one daughter Christine in 1993. She is survived by her eight children: Nolan Scheihing and his wife Donna; Neil Scheihing; Melvin Scheihing and his wife Judy all of Guthrie; Sharon Awtrey and her husband Gene of Huntsville, AR; Marsha Swanson and her husband Charles of Lake Ridge, VA; Lucille Hinkle and her husband Kenny of Lakeland, FL; Lawrence Scheihing of Cashion, OK; and Kenneth Scheihing and his wife Mary Lou of Greenfield, OK. She has 22 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren and a host of other loved family and friends.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Smith Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Seward Cemetery, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
