William “Bill” J. Simpson passed away on March 16, 2022, surrounded with the love of wife, Evelyn, at his side. He was born to Jewel Patience Simpson and Clara Maxine “Pat” (Slusher) Simpson on April 5, 1945 in Herrin, Illinois. He graduated John Marshall High School in 1963 and went on to college at the University of Wyoming, where he played baseball before entering the Army. Bill married Evelyn Tarrant Myers Simpson on May 26, 2000.
Bill had a pilot’s license and worked as an over the road long haul truck driver for many years, prior to settling in Crescent, OK, to continue as a farmer and rancher. He loved farming, being outdoors, and having animated discussions on politics, or round table coffee discussions. He also enjoyed spending time with his Aunt Mary Louise Slusher, who lived in San Francisco, until she recently passed at the age of 106 years old
Bill is survived by his wife of 21 years, Evelyn; children Ron Simpson and wife Linda, Chris Simpson, Brenda Myers Thompson and husband James “Jim” Shannon Thompson, John Myers and wife Gerel; grandchildren Austin, Logan and Brennan Simpson, Garrison Sullivan, and Sienna Myers, and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sibling James “Jim” Simpson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Crescent with Rev. Paul Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Knowles Cemetery in Crescent. Viewing will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
