Melvin Paul Branson was born November 25, 1936 in Mulhall, Oklahoma to Luther and Winnifred (McCracken) Branson. He passed away July 9, 2020 at his home in Kingfisher, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years.
Melvin met Bernita Eva Moore in the summers while on wheat harvest with his brothers in Manchester, South Dakota. He saw her each summer and couldn't get her out of his head. The 3rd summer he asked for her hand in marriage. She accepted and days later they eloped to Redwood Fall, Minnesota on August 27, 1958. He brought her back to El Reno where they established their first home. He always said Bernita is the most beautiful woman he ever saw.
Melvin was the most wonderful father and family man. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a very happy, loving, caring, giving, and strong man. He led his family by example to be good Christians right from the start. He had the greatest capacity for love. He loved all God's creature. When any of us strayed from the right path he did his best as a father to help us back on the right path. He was always understanding and there for the whole family. All he ever asked for was love and devotion as deep as the ocean.
He was the best story teller this country has ever heard. If you had the time, he had the story. All of his grandchildren said their favorite memories circle around him and the time they spent on Sundays after church at his house. He had the kindest soul, biggest heart, and always went out of his way to help everyone. We long to hear him sing one more song from his past. He loved to sing and whistle. We are the lucky ones to have had him for a father, grandfather, and that his great grandkids got to know him.
Survivors include three children, Charles Branson and wife Vicki, Sylvia Bernhardt, and Debra Henderson all of Kingfisher; sister, Emma Gaye Sieber of Hennessey; brother, Emmitt Branson of Crescent; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bernita, son, Gaylen Paul, grandson, Brock, two sisters, and 2 brothers.
Funeral services will be Monday July 13, 2020 at the Kingfisher Church of Christ with Jay Roney officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland-Knowles Cemetery in Crescent.
