Funeral services for Leon "Popeye" Rogers, 92, formerly of Guthrie, OK will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2009 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Clyde Richmond and Reverend Terry Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Leon was born on May 5, 1917 in Tennessee to Frank and Martha (Galbraith) Rogers. He died August 30, 2009 in Lawrenceville, GA.
Leon’s family consists of daughter Katherine Rogers Mozee’ and her mother Bobbie Johnson Rogers (deceased); daughter Rochelle Leona Rogers and her mother Doris Lewis Morgan (deceased) and her sisters Alice Roberts, Claudia Bell, Brenda Davis, and Donna Salter; stepchildren Julia Harding, Quincy Hider, Margaret Hunter, Juanita Roper, Ovanda Coleman (deceased), Gabe Hider (deceased), Frank Hider (deceased), Reuben Hider (deceased), Charmetrea Kennedy (deceased), and Verna Mack (deceased) and their mother Geneva Hider Rogers (deaceased); siblings Eliza Evans, Cornelius Rogers (deceased), George Rogers (deceased), John Rogers (deceased), Willie Rogers (deceased), Thelma Brown (deceased), Louise Chandler (deceased), Cleo Jacobs (deceased), Allie Nealey (deceased), Jo Ella Rogers (deceased), and Maggie Rogers (deceased); grandchildren Dehrone Webb, Mario Coleman, Lernis Roberts, Lernetta Roberts, Doris Roberts, Jelani Bell, Kamilah Bell, Zakiya Bell, Aisha Davis, Kweski Davis, Jimiyu Davis, Arneatha Viney, Maya Salter, Kenya Salter, Alan D. Mozee’, plus 35; and many more family members (Angela Love Benton) and friends.
Visitation will be held at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home on Thursday, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
