Funeral services for Mary Jewel Nelson, 93, of Guthrie, OK will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Reverend Earnie Owen of Broken Arrow, OK officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Jewel was born December 12, 1917 in Clarendon, TX to Luther and Willie Bethie (Youngblood) Johnston. She died Friday, December 24, 2010 at her home surrounded by her many loved ones.
Jewel married Aaron "T.P." Nelson on June 22, 1935 in Guthrie.
She is survived by ten children Aaron Nelson (Dolores) of Maple Falls, WA, Billy Nelson (Cindy), Clinton Nelson (Carolyn) all of Coyle, OK, Clifford Nelson (Judy), Martha Young (Dean), Dorothy Seagroves (Cecil), Patricia Myers (Gary), Steve Nelson (Zoya), Terry Nelson, and Barbara Tennison (David) all of Guthrie; two brothers Marvin Johnston and Joe Johnston (Dorothy) of Guthrie; two sisters Mae Donihoo and Mabel Smith both of Texas; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.
Jewel is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years T.P. Nelson, one daughter Louise Higdon and her husband Bill, two grandsons Philip Myers and Leslie Nelson, one great-grandson Corey Moore, two brothers Fred Johnston and Billy Johnston, and two sisters Faye Lindsey and Ora Lee Hopkins.
Friends and relatives may call at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home on Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Companion Hospice, 1314 East Oklahoma Avenue, Guthrie, OK 73044 or Logan County Aging Services, 1102 East Warner Avenue, Guthrie, OK 73044.
