William Andrew Darkis

William Andrew "Bill" Darkis, Sr. was born May 24, 1936 in Parsons, KS to Dave and Frances (Taylor) Darkis. Bill attended public school in Parsons, KS and served in the Air Force for 2 years. He met and married Nan Willhoite February 21, 1959 in Wichita, KS. To this union three sons were born. He was employed at Oklahoma Furniture Factory, Keller Williams Furniture Factory, Sears Company, Guthrie Job Corps, and was substitute teacher at Millwood Schools in Oklahoma City until he had a stroke in 1994.
Bill was a Guthrie Little League coach for many years. He united with Macedonia Baptist Church in 1966 under the late Pastor Eddie Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters, and one granddaughter. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Nan, four sons, Kevin, William Jr. (Hilda), Jeffrey, Eric (Glenda), fourteen grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and a host of relatives and friends.
His greatest passion was traveling with his family and coaching kids.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 at Macedonia Baptist Church, Guthrie, OK. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Visitation will be held Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
