Willard Ralph Brittain, the youngest of 5 children, was born August 15, 1929 to Wilcy and Verlie Brittain in Holdenville, OK. He passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013 in Oklahoma City, OK.
Willard was a witness and survivor of the Great Depression and Dust Bowl. He served in the US Army from 1950 – 1952. He worked as a truck driver for the Fleming Company and others before making a career of and retiring from Tinker AFB where he worked for 23 years.
Before retiring, he had built his hobby of welding and automotive repair into a small business, Lakeside Sales, which he happily continued after retirement for over 20 years as a small automotive salvage yard that was not only his passion but also allowed him the opportunity to help others when his abilities and resources could make a difference in their lives.
Willard was a faithful member of Guthrie Bible Baptist Church and loved the Lord Jesus Christ. He will be missed and loved forever by all who knew him. Will Rogers said: “I never met a man "didn’t like" and it can be said that I never met anyone who did not like Willard Brittain.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Morene Griffin Brittain and survived by their three children: Carolyn Sue Brittain Tyrrell and husband Jim of Guthrie, OK; Sharon Kay Brittain Cloin and husband Marty of Mansfield, TX; Larry Lee Brittain and wife Paula of Guthrie as well as seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Willard is survived by his wife and "Best Friend" Georgia Hopkins Brittain of Guthrie whose family, daughter Collette (deceased) and son Richard Yurich and wife Rynee of Edmond, OK, added seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild to those who were blessed by his love and kindness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 8, 2013, at Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Robby Robbins officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
