Reverend Eldon D. Anderson, age 85, departed this life on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was surrounded by family until he entered his Heavenly home. Eldon was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for 54 years.
Eldon was born on August 6, 1935, in Collinsville, Oklahoma, to James William Anderson and Martha Apphia Bell Anderson. He attended schools in Oologah, Chelsea, and Foyil, Oklahoma. He graduated from Foyil High School in 1953. He often said that he graduated in the top 10 of his class. There were 10 students in his graduating class. After high school, he attended Draughon's Business School of Tulsa and majored in accounting. He worked his way through school in a local diner. After college, he went to work as a buyer and purchasing agent for Oklahoma Building Supply in Tulsa. He was bivocational and continued working in commercial hardware while pastoring several churches in Oklahoma.
Eldon married Carolyn Sue Hunnicutt, the love of his life, on August 17, 1956, in Chelsea, Oklahoma. To this union two children were born, Eldona Sue Anderson Woodruff and Stephen Michael Anderson.
Eldon enlisted in military service and served with the Oklahoma National Guard 179th Infantry 45th division for six years. He was stationed in Ft. Knox, Kentucky, where he served as a tank commander before entering Officers Candidate School. He left military service in 1963.
In 1966, Eldon accepted a higher calling from God. After completion of the necessary course work, he received his ordination and served as a Pastor at Davenport Assembly of God, Wellston Assembly of God, Central Assembly of God in Edmond, Okarche Assembly of God and Maranatha Assembly of God in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
In retirement, Eldon enjoyed visiting with family, travel, gardening and attending his great-grandson Matthew's soccer, football and baseball games. He traveled to 41 states and 16 countries.
Eldon dedicated his life to helping others. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and papa. He will forever be remembered for his beautiful smile, twinkling blue eyes, caring heart and unconditional love.
Eldon is preceded in death by his parents, James William Anderson and Martha Apphia Bell Anderson, one sister Audrey Anderson, and two brothers Eugene Anderson and William Leon Ray Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue Hunnicutt Anderson, of the home, two children, Eldona Woodruff of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Stephen Michael Anderson and wife Beth of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, four grandchildren, Rebeccca Wimberly and husband Lindsey of Wynnewood, Oklahoma, Miranda Hoel and husband Chris of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Cristina Dotson and husband Eric of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Michael Woodruff of Guthrie, Oklahoma. He was blessed with three bonus grandchildren, Coy Cooksey and wife Jennifer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Amy Potts and husband Jeff of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Casey Barnett and wife Kalyn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, two great-grandchildren Matthew Adams and Tristan Dotson and bonus great-grandchildren, Noah Hoel, Kaitlyn Knight, Madison Hoel, Ruby Barnett, Rose Barnett, Mary Beth Barnett, Ashton Cooksey and Koby Cooksey. He is also survived by two sisters Leota Nelson and husband Richard, Alveta Parks and husband Floyd, and sister-in-law Louann Anderson all of Chelsea, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Spring Creek Assembly in Edmond, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.. at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
