Charles Howard Gooch
October 16, 1931 - December 05, 2015

Charles Howard Gooch, born on October 16, 1931, went home to be with his Lord on December 5, 2015. Charles was born at home near Mulhall, Oklahoma to his parents Raymond H. and Ella M. (Gilliam) Gooch. Charles attended several local elementary schools and graduated from Guthrie High School in 1949. After high school Charles attended Hill’s Business University in Oklahoma City and also joined the Naval Reserve. Charles was called to active duty and was assigned to the staff of Commander in Chief of the Battleship-Cruiser in the Atlantic fleet. He served aboard the USS Missouri and the USS Albany until October 1953. Charles left the Navy as a Yeoman 3rd class in 1954. Charles returned to Hill’s and finished his degree in May 1954. On July 1, 1954 Charles started working at Hughes Tool Company. His job took the family to 8 cities and 5 states throughout his 41 year tenure with Hughes Tool Company which later merged with Baker to become Baker Hughes. Charles retired from Baker Hughes in 1995. After retirement he began driving a school bus for Mulhall-Orlando School system where he drove for 8 -1/2 years. Driving the school bus was his favorite job and he loved the kids.

Charles married the love of his life, Wanda Marie Fagan, on March 23rd, 1952 at the home of her parents Russell and Electa Fagan. To this union were born five children: Richard Charles, Randall Eugene, Timothy James, and twins Terry Raymond and Sherri Marie.

Charles was a Southern Baptist and was ordained as a deacon in 1959 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend, Kansas. Charles and Wanda are currently members of the Abell Community Church where he served as a deacon and treasurer for many years.

Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wanda, of the home, his sons Rick and wife Debbie of Mulhall, Oklahoma, Randy and his spouse Todd of Arlington, VA, Tim and Michele of Edmond, Oklahoma, Terry and wife Paige of Crescent, Oklahoma and daughter Sherri Hobbs of Sugar Land, Texas. He is also survived by his brother Edd and wife Loretta of Moore, Oklahoma and seven grandchildren: Jason and wife Tiffany of Edmond, Oklahoma, Tara and husband Ron of Tuscola, Texas, T.J and wife Stephanie of Rosenberg, Texas, Greg of Needville, Texas, Amorette of Tennessee, Bryan and wife Jennifer of Richmond, Texas and Jacob of Sugar Land, Texas. Charles also has 8 great-grandchildren with a 9th one due in January. Charles’ additional survivors include several nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces and cousins. Charles was preceded in death by his parents Raymond H. and Ella M. Gooch as well as Wanda’s parents Russell and Electa Fagan whom he considered his second parents.

Charles was a tenderheated, generous Christian man who was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a quick wit and lived his life to honor his Lord and Savior and to unconditionally love, protect and take care of his family. Charles will be missed dearly but we rejoice in the hope and knowledge that we will be reunited with him in Heaven one day!

Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Abell Community Church with Pastor Van Hudson officiating. Services are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
