Dennis Lee Hampton Obituary

image
Born: July 26, 1954
Died: May 6, 2016

Dennis Lee Hampton was born July 26, 1954 at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA, the son of James Howard and Donna Mae (Hedges) Hampton. He completed this life on Friday, May 6, 2016 at the age of 61. He was raised in Oklahoma City where he graduated from Putnam City High School class of 1972. Dennis was a 1978 graduate of O.U. where he played Trombone in the OU marching band, and earned a degree in Accounting. He became a Certified Public Accountant joining his father, James Hampton, in the family business that had been established by his maternal grandfather, Harold Hedges.

Dennis loved his family, friends, and clients, regularly putting them first. He was always ready to offer any assistance to his neighbors and even to strangers. He was a member of the Putnam City Christian Choir as well as serving on the church board as Treasurer for a number of years. He was a co-teacher of the 5th grade Sunday school class and participated in the church softball and volleyball teams. It will be remembered that Dennis managed the church Oklahoma State Fair 4H cafeteria until it was discontinued in the 1990’s. Preparation for the 17 days the cafeteria would be open would began in June and be all consuming until the end of November. He gave his all to any project he undertook. His love for camping, the lake and fishing originated from his years as a member of the Boy Scouts of America and numerous family camping trips. He was so organized that just a weekend trip to the lake would initiate a two week prep complete with a list of things that needed to get accomplished before we pulled out. He could not function without his "lists". He will be missed by so many who love him.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne; his parents, Donna and Jim Hampton; his brothers, Bob Hampton and his wife Debbie of Oklahoma City, Bruce Hampton and his wife Laura of Columbia, MD and Steve Hampton and his wife Ginger of Mustang, OK; his sisters-in-law, Pam Hill and her husband Joe of Guthrie, OK and Avaline Wilson of Claremore, OK; his nieces and nephews, Shauna Rucker, Ragena Wilkerson, Brian Hampton, Adam Hampton, Emily Hampton, Chris Hampton, Matthew Hampton and Jimmy Wilson; and 4 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Howard Hampton, Jr. and a great nephew, Davin Rucker.

The family will honor and celebrate his life by receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the Vondel Smith Mortuary, 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 13th in Putnam City Christian Church, 4215 N. Grove, officiated by Jim Ellis and Carolyn McLemore, music by Jim Henline. Pallbears will be Mike Haskin, Steve Diehl, Joe Hill, Brian Hampton, Chris Hampton and John Vas. Interment will be in Harmony Cemetery.

The family requests that in memory of Dennis, a multi-gallon blood donator, a memorial blood donation be made to the Oklahoma Blood Institute Foundation, 1001 N. Lincoln Blvd, OKC 73104 or www.obi.org .
