Cora Bell Bross

Born: November 09, 1920
Died: August 17, 2008

Cora Bell Bross passed away Sunday, August 17, 2008, after a prolonged illness at the age of 87. She was born November 9, 1920, to Goldie and A.N. (Bat) Dreessen near Seward, OK. She married Frank (Bud) Bross on May 24, 1941, and after Frank returned from WWII, they lived in the same square mile west of Guthrie for their entire married life. Cora Bell is survived by her daughter Anna May Perry and Charlie Callahan and her son Merrill Bross (wife Betty); grandchildren Johnny Len Shults, Kendall Shults (wife Kristi), Keith Shults (wife Julie), Eva Durant, Amanda and Adam Bross; great-grandchildren Gracie Shults, Lindsay, Jacob and Olivia Shults, Johnetta Rhodes (husband David), and Christopher Durant; and great-great-grandchildren Orianna and Loraine Rhodes. She is also survived by brothers and sisters Ralph Dreessen (wife Ruby), Bernice Scheihing, Alice Datin (husband Marion), Barbara "Bobbie" Byrom, Frances Beasley, Mona Ruth Crum and Richard Dreessen (wife Betty) and many other loving relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud, daughter Wilma, son-in-law Johnny Shults and brother Bernard Dreessen.

Cora Bell was one of the last 2 graduates of Navina High School in 1938. She was well known in Logan County for her church and volunteer work. She was an active member of and secretary for Harmony Church for many years; a home room Mother and trip chaperone for her children’s classes; a 4-H Leader; FFA volunteer; was involved with Extension Homemakers, serving in various offices; served on the Logan County Fair Board as Treasurer; and was a member of Keenagers. Through the Extension Homemakers she was a pioneer in the development of the Logan County Christmas Store, part of the time serving as Chairman. Cora Bell enjoyed sewing and crafting, and continued her projects until a month before her death.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the First Christian Church of Guthrie with Reverend Tom Walsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
