Forrest Phillip Yenzer was born June 21, 1932 in Kingfisher County, Ok to Nathaniel and Anna Yenzer. He passed away December 4, 2018 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie, OK at the age of 86 years.
Phillip graduated from Crescent High School with the Class of 1950. He played football, basketball, and was involved in FFA where he was named State Farmer. After high school Phillip considered walking on at Oklahoma State as a running back but saw the size of the defensive players and decided to join the Navy instead. He served in the US Navy as a helmsman on the Cape Esperance for 2 and a half years.
When Phillip returned to Crescent he took over the family farm in Kingfisher County and farmed until he purchased the IGA grocery store in 1966. Phillip ran the business successfully, employing hundreds - especially VICA students from the high school during his ownership. Many of these students were initiated by asking businesses on Main Street for 'Shelf Stretchers'. Phillip will be fondly remembered for his jokes and clowning around with his customers, salesmen, delivery men and basically anybody who walked through the front door of the grocery.
Phillip believed in being involved and supporting the community and was rewarded by being named Citizen of the Year. He was a Deacon at Oak Valley, a volunteer Fireman, announcer at the Crescent Football games, Crescent School Board, Lion's Club, Chamber of Commerce, President of the Quarterback Club, Jaycees, Little League Football Coach, for several years coordinated the Christmas Parade, and worked the annual Fireman's Bean Supper.
Phillip was lucky enough to catch the love of his life, Glenda Lee Tackitt, who he married March 10, 1956. They shared thousands of memories raising 4 children: Craig, Beverly, Suzanne and Cheri. Survivors include his wife of 62 years; 4 children, Craig Yenzer and wife Tamra of Midland, TX, Beverly Cox and husband Lance(Ric) of Midland, TX, Suzanne Yenzer of Crescent, OK, and Cheri Clark and husband Tommy of Crescent, OK; Grandchildren, Tyler and wife Amy, Danielle and husband Brad, Clay and wife Meghan, Karmen, Wade, Kourtney and husband Jodi, and Karlee; Great-grandchildren, Olivia, Graham, Jillian, Shayleigh, Tanner, Symmer, Whitley, Maxdon, Sutton and Greyson. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.
Phillip loved his family and worked diligently to provide for them. Phillip supported his family not only financially but by attending every event possible for his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his bright orange blazer he wore at many Tiger athletic events for his children. He traveled thousands of miles over the state of Oklahoma and Texas to support his grandchildren in their endeavors and was their biggest Cheerleader.
His belief and service to the Lord was a fundamental part of his life and made him into an outstanding man, husband, and father.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 10, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Crescent with Pastor Mike Channel and Hospice Chaplin Gene Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Crescent Cemetery in Crescent.
