Sue J. Wilson
(Died May 6, 2013)
Sue Wilson passed from this life on May 6, 2013 at the age of 81. Sue was born on the family farm southeast of Crescent to Martin and Bernie Tontz in a time when you killed your own chickens, canned your own vegetables, and went to the bathroom outdoors. She attended Cedar Valley School, a one room school house, through the 8th grade. Sue and her sister Polly walked to school a mile and a half everyday – up hill both ways. She graduated from Guthrie High School in 1949. Afterwards she attended Hills Business School in OKC.
Jim and Sue Wilson were married on February 22, 1951 on the same farm where she was born. After they married Jim was sent overseas with the Army. She worked in OKC during this time. After Jim was discharged from the Army, the couple spent practically all their married life in Hennessey and Crescent. Sue worked as a bookkeeper for the CO-OP and then First National Bank in Hennessey before retiring in 1996.
Sue was a good Mom to her children: Nancy Jackson and Sam Wilson. She taught them the importance of self-reliance, hard work, and thrift. She is also survived by her husband, Jim; 1 brother, Calvin Tontz; 2 sisters, Paulie Bacholr and Martina Brown; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Sue was a Christian and a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Hennessey and then later in Crescent. She served in a variety of roles in both churches over the years.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the Crescent First Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Crescent Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent.
