Edna Mae Tontz
(May 17, 1920 - March 1, 2007)

Edna Mae Tontz died March 1, 2007 in Guthrie, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 12 days. She was born on May 17, 1920 to Carl and Allie (Nall) Marrs. On December 8, 1938 she married her husband of 68 years, Leonard Tontz in Crescent.

Edna worked as a cook at the Masonic Temple and also cooked and served as the kitchen manager at the Guthrie High School for 20 years, but her main occupation was being a farmer’s wife. She was a member of the Farm Women’s (HCE) Club for over 40 years. She also worked as a volunteer cook at Camp Joy and was active in the Abell community in her earlier years. She was baptized as a youth at the First Christian Church in Crescent and attended there more recently. Edna loved to travel, cook, grow flowers and enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include, her husband Leonard, of the home; two sons, Robert Tontz and wife Mary Jane of Guthrie; Len Tontz and wife Linda of Guthrie; one daughter, Alma Hopkins and husband Jimmy of Guthrie, three sisters, Vera Gurley of Ft. Worth, TX; Alice Kordis of Inola, OK and Eva Bench of Guthrie, one brother, Wayne Marrs of Euless, TX, seven grandchildren, Jeff Hopkins and wife Gea of Peidmont, Greg Tontz and wife Laura of Goldsby, Kristin Boyett and husband Ken of Edmond, Melissa Fawcett and husband Doug of Denver, CO., Ginger and husband Jeff Laxton of Cuba, MO., Loy Tontz and wife Kacie of Guthrie, Brandon Tontz and wife Jill of Guthrie and twelve great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at the First Christian Church of Crescent with Pastor Dan Curtis and Pastor Keith Gordon officiating, burial will follow in the Crescent Cemetery under the direction of Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent. Viewing will be Monday from 8:30 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. and Tuesday from 8:30 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Family are requesting memorial be made to the Logan Medical Center Foundation, Guthrie Public School Foundation or the First Christian Church of Crescent.
