Charley Porter Thomason

Born: April 03, 1916
Died: January 25, 2011

Charley Porter Thomason was born April 3, 1916 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Johnnie Everhart Thomason and Cleo Davis Thomason. He went peacefully to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on January 25, 2011.

Early in life he worked in the oil field where he shared his vast knowledge and experience with others. He was on the crew that traveled to Jamaica and drilled the first oil well there. Charley married Letha Maybell Webb Thomason in Pawnee, Oklahoma in 1935. He and Letha lived in Guthrie, Oklahoma and then built a home in Mulhall, Oklahoma out on the farm. He was an avid farmer and rancher until he was 92 years old. He loved to be on the farm watching and feeding his cows.

Charley never knew a stranger and made lifelong friends everywhere he went. He would say he was a “rich” man not in money but in all the wonderful family and friends that he had. He enjoyed to be spoiled by all his “girls.” He would always find “sugar” on your face that required a kiss on your check. He loved life and enjoyed telling stories about his family, the old days, and all his lifelong adventures.

He is survived by his sons, J.D. Thomason and Jo of Mulhall, Raymond Thomason and Belinda of Guthrie, and Mark Thomason and Connie of Guthrie and his daughters LaDonna Sweatt of Enid and Lila Jean Tillman and Bob of Glencoe. He had 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Letha, his son Buddy, several grandchildren, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Elder Henry Newman and Reverend Ralph Yost officiating. Interment will follow at Crescent Cemetery, Crescent, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. Visitation will be held Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
