Robert Lynn Swanson
(September 6, 1948 - October 8, 2008)

Robert Lynn Swanson, of Crescent, was born September 6, 1948 on a farm west of Crescent to John A. and Velma Violet (Harman) Swanson. He passed away on October 8, 2008 in Guthrie, Oklahoma at the age of 60 years, 1 month and 2 days. On October 20, 1991 he married Carolyn Beth (Crowe) Pierce in Crescent, Oklahoma.

Robert graduated from Crescent High School in 1966. He attended Oklahoma State University until 1970 where he then joined the National Guard. He entered the National Guard on September 15, 1970 in the Kansas National Guard in the Infantry. In June of 1972 he was in Battery C 1st of the 171st First Target Acquisition Battalion for the Field Artillery. He received an Honorable Discharge on September 30, 1976. Robert worked for Kerr McGee, First American Title and Trust for 18 ˝ years and then Grande’ Oil Company in Edmond for the last 5 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his horses, his chickens, camping and riding trains in the mountains. He also loved going to Auctions and was an Auctioneer. Robert was a member of the First Christian Church, The NRA and The Wildlife Federation.

Survivors include, wife, Carolyn Swanson of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Swanson of Mannford, OK; two sons, Matthew Pierce of El Reno, OK and Shawn Pierce and wife Windy of Canute, OK; one daughter-in-law, Leann Pierce of El Reno, OK; one sister, Juanita Rigdon and husband Alfred of Crescent; one brother, J.C. Swanson and wife Mary Alice of Edmond, OK; three grandchildren, Aaron and Tyler Pierce, and Sadie Pierce. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Keith Gordon officiating. Burial will follow at the Crescent Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent. Memorial can be made to the ALS (Lou Gehrig’s) Foundation.
