Monica Sue Schemm
(June 18, 1963 - June 12, 2013)
Monica Sue (Keister) Schemm was born June 18, 1963 in Cheyenne Wells, Co to Harry and Wanda Keister of Sharon Spring, Ks. Monica passed away in her Crescent home on June 12, 2013 at 49 years of age.
She attended school in Sharon Springs. She was a high-school cheerleader and graduated in 1981 with honors as valedictorian. She then attended college in Garden City, Ks and also was a cheerleader there her first year.
Monica then married her high-school sweetheart Mark Schemm on Nov 2, 1985 at the home of Melvin and Kay Schemm in rural Wallace, Kansas.
Monica and Mark had their first child a beautiful baby girl, Kaylea Rae on July 15, 1987 in Denver Colorado. Then their handsome son came, K.C. Alan on April 1, 1991. Monica was then diagnosed with brain cancer on April 15, 1991. She then underwent chemotherapy and radiation. She beat her fight with cancer after her treatments.
Monica worked at UCO for 15 years as a financial aid advisor. She was a whiz at math. Monica was forced to quit due to a fall she had in 2003 that caused serve brain damage. She learned to play the piano at young age and was very good at it. Some of the things she like to do as she got older was go bowling and play cards with friends. She loved phase 10 and yahtzee. As she became ill she enjoyed word search puzzles, playing solitaire and had to keep up with those soap operas.
She is survived by her husband, Mark of the home. Her two children; Kaylea of Tulsa, Ok and K.C. of the home. Her grandson Jaxson of Tulsa, OK. Her parents Harry and Wanda Keister of Sharon springs, KS. Her sisters Becky Newton (Monty) of Greeley, CO; Melody Bisel (Kelly) of Ames, OK and her brother Rex Keister (Sharon) of Beloit, KS. Monica was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister and will be missed by many.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Barrie Henke officiating. Interment will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in Crescent Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent.
A memorial fund has been set up at Farmers and Merchants Bank in Monica's honor.
