Roy Carrol Nowell Obit

Roy Carrol Nowell was born December 22, 1931 to Andrew J. Nowell and Girtha Nowell in Soper, Oklahoma. He passed away on November 28, 2024 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He graduated High School at Plainview School in Greer County, Oklahoma.
He married Bettye Ruth Banks on December 24, 1951 and to this union was born a son, Larry Duane in 1955 and a daughter, Carol Sue, in 1959.
He is survived by his wife Bettye, his son Larry and Anna, two grandchildren, Brent Allen Nowell and Gledis of Broken Arrow, OK, Shannon Justice and Michael of Parkville, MO, five great grandchildren, Kennedy Kay Justice, Brynlee Ann Justice, Jace Michael Justice, Aden Allen Nowell, and Ethan Elijah Nowell. Three step-grandchildren and seven step- great grandchildren. One sister, Peggy Sanchez of Cannon City, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Carrol Sue, four brothers and five sisters.
Roy served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954. After his discharge he attended college at Southwestern University, Weatherford, OK and graduated with a Bachelor's in Education. He began teaching at Ocina Schools in Greer County, OK and obtained a Masters Degree by attending summer school.
Roy taught also at Granite, OK, Window Rock in Arizona, and Crescent. While in Arizona he got a Masters of Teaching Degree at NAU in Flagstaff.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, The Crescent Lion's Club, and a deacon in the Baptist Church in Crescent and Highland Hills in Oklahoma City. He taught Sunday School in both churches. When in Crescent he went on several mission trips, helped build the 1st new building at Crescent First Baptist and helped build the Frontier Country Museum in Crescent.
Roy and Bettye moved to the Baptist Village in 2009. Roy helped with the bus driving. Roy also helped with a devotion once a month at Bible Study until he was unable to do so.
Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 5, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Crescent. Services are under the direction of Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent. Interment will be in the Crescent Cemetery.
