Doril Dean Moon was born February 7, 1932, in Fay, Oklahoma, the second of two children born to John Allen and Margaret Stinson Moon. He passed away March 24, 2022, in Yukon, OK.

Doril was a man of faith in Christ, devotedly serving in many ministries in hislocal Baptist churches as Sunday School teacher and devotional leader. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Yukon, and resided in Spanish Cove Retirement Community. He previously served in First Baptist Church, Crescent, and Highland Park Baptist Church, Edmond, OK.

Doril married Edwina Hays on March 1, 1952, in Tucumcari, New Mexico. They were high school sweethearts from Greenfield, Oklahoma, where she was the Senior Class President, and he was the Vice President.

One of Doril's first jobs was at Roman Nose State Park. He would rent swimsuits for a dime a day. Another part of his job was to wash those swimsuits ... once a week.

Doril served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he obtained an accounting degree from Southwestern State University, Weatherford, OK. Doril worked at the ACS office in Blaine County and Pan American Oil Company before retiring from the Internal Revenue Service at the age of fifty-five. He never liked telling people that he worked for the IRS, because nobody likes a tax collector. After working for a local accounting firm for several years, he finally retired from accounting and entered farming fulltime, which had been a hobby up to that point.

There are many words that can be used to describe his life:

Humor - Doril always had a joke to tell. He's been known to take over the mic on long group trips and entertain his fellow travelers. He was also very witty. Sometimes you had to stop and think about what he said before you realized the wit behind the comment.

Devotion - He was devoted to his wife, taking care of her 24/7 after her stroke. He was also devoted to his family, the model for leading a close-knit family ... that throws way too many parties.

Wisdom - Doril was intelligent, wise, and loving. He truly was the great patriarch of his family. He desired to impart his wisdom about God, life, and the family itself. His favorite method was to use short sayings and rules of thumb. One of the most popular was to keep your mistakes under a thousand dollars.

Approachable - Doril knew a lot of people all over the state. Everywhere Doril went he found someone he knew. Everywhere.

Doril had a sharp mind even to the age of ninety. He not only kept up with world events, but he was also negotiating oil and gas contracts, windmill and solar power agreements, and mineral rights division orders.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing cards and dominoes, and he was always up for a good game of pool. He loved attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, and he was equally proud of their academic achievements. He tolerated traveling with Edwina, always commenting that this next trip was going to be his last.

Doril and Edwina raised three children, Joetta, Sandra, and Jerry in Crescent, Oklahoma.

Doril is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and brother Wayne Arlyn Moon and Vera Moon.

Doril is survived by his children Joetta and Scott Beauchene, Sandra and Dave Thomas, and Jerry and Melissa Moon.

Doril was especially proud of his eight grandchildren: Brent and Gledis Nowell, Shannan and Michael Justice, Marissa and Seth Kasper, Karly Thomas, Daniel and Jesa Leigh, Tennille and Jacob Hayes, Mary Moon, and John Moon.

Known G Pa, he was prouder even still of his twelve great-grandchildren: Kennedy Justice, Aden Nowell, Ethan Nowell, Brynlee Justice, Jace Justice, Cooper Kasper, Henley Kasper, Trenton Gunter, Mykayla Hayes, Zane Hayes, Iris Leigh and Eli Leigh.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at the First Baptist Church, Yukon, Oklahoma, under the direction of Abernathy-Aaron Funeral Home. The service will be at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church, Yukon, OK, with Graveside Services at 2:00 pm at the Crescent Cemetery, Crescent, OK.

Mary Edwina Moon, 86, passed away January 18, 2018 in Oklahoma City. She was born February 27, 1931, in Geary, Oklahoma, the third of nine children born to Merle and Ethel Dromgoole Hays.

Edwina was a woman of faith in Christ and devotedly served in many ministries and activities in her local Baptist churches: rocking babies in the nursery, serving as church secretary, and, one of her favorite ministries, Friendship International. She and Doril are members of First Baptist Church, Yukon, and reside in Spanish Cove.

God blessed Edwina with a true servant's heart and talent to care for family and friends through sewing, crafting, and cooking. She was especially known for her sweet potatoes, GiGi bread, Indoor Smores, and desserts. Her sewing talent was known by the community through her career work at Woolworths, Mapes Department Store, and Sears. But she was especially known for making Easter dresses for the women and girls in the family and sometimes matching shirts or ties for the boys and men.

Edwina Hays married Doril Moon on March 1, 1952 in Tucumcari, New Mexico, They were high school sweethearts from Greenfield, Oklahoma, where she was the Senior Class president and he was the vice president.

There are many words that can be used to describe this marriage:

Love - deep, an example for us all

Devotion - that not only endured but grew though the year

Service - to one another, and to the family they started together

Comfort - in sickness and in health, and in the joy of childbirth and the tragedy of miscarriage Edwina and Doril raised three children, Joetta, Sandra, and Jerry in Crescent, Oklahoma. She and Doril celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last year, celebrating with family and friends.

Edwina loved playing games and cards - especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she was very competitive. If you won, it was because you beat her, not because she let you win. She loved talking, spending time with friends and family, going to water aerobics, and traveling, visiting 49 states. She spent many days and nights watching sporting events of her children and grandchildren and she loved hearing of their accomplishments.

She loved to entertain and host parties, especially birthday parties. She made your birthday special, letting you select the meal and there was always a birthday cake with candles. As the family grew, a monthly birthday party worked best and some months there had to be two parties, so everyone could be celebrated.

The Hays family reunions were always a highlight of her year. She attended every reunion since they began in 1980 and kept her spiral notebook of details of the weekend, including everyone present. Most years she brought a gift for her sisters and sisters-in-law that she crafted or sewed.

Edwina is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Oletha Nabors and husband Claude; Virgil Hays and wife Jacqueline; Rosalee Ivins and husband Randall, Manning Hays, and sister-in-law Jeannie Hays. Closely following her in death was her brother Leonard Hays.

Edwina is survived by her husband, Doril Moon of Yukon, and children Joetta and Scott Beauchene, Sandra and Dave Thomas, and Jerry and Melissa Moon. Siblings surviving her are Jack and Mollie Hays, Robert Hays, Ronald and Judilee Hays and sisters-in-law Alice Hays, Louise Hays and Sharon Hays, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Edwina was especially proud of her eight grandchildren: Brent and Gledis Nowell, Shannan and Michael Justice, Daniel and Jesa Leigh, Tennille Gunter and Jacob Hayes, Marissa and Seth Kasper, Karly Thomas, Mary Moon, and John Moon. Known as GiGi, she was prouder even still of her twelve great-grandchildren: Kennedy Justice, Aden Nowell, Ethan Nowell, Brynlee Justice, Jace Justice, Cooper Kasper, Henley Kasper, Trenton Gunter, Mykayla Hayes, Zane Hayes, Iris Leigh and Eli Leigh.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the First Baptist Church, Crescent, Oklahoma, under the direction of Aaron-Abernathy Funeral Home. Visitation and viewing will be at 1:00 pm followed by the service at 2:00 pm.
