Lori Ann Jones was born April 26, 1961 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to LeRoy and Anna Lee Jones. She passed away September 27, 2019 in Oklahoma City at the age of 58 years.
At the age of 3 her family moved to Crescent, where she grew up on the family farm northwest of town. Lori enjoyed being outside and being surrounded by the animals that also made their home on the farm. During planting season and harvest, she could be seen riding the tractor with her Grandpa Jones and her brother Mike. She always made sure that all the equipment was operating correctly. She enjoyed going to her PawPaw Sumpter's house on the lake in the summer. This might be where she learned to love fishing.
Lori started school in Mrs. Cotton's backyard kindergarten class. She attended Crescent Schools from 1st-12th grade, graduating in 1979. In school, she was active in FFA and Band. She raised Suffolk and Hampshire sheep to show at the many livestock shows. She played the cornet in the marching and orchestra bands. After graduating from high school, Lori attended medical assistant/X-ray technician school. Later, she enrolled at the University of Central Oklahoma where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters of Education. While attending UCO, Lori was employed by the university in the periodicals department of the library. She continued working there until her disability prevented her from being able to perform her duties. After retiring, Lori enjoyed fishing, visiting with friends, and evidently shopping!
In the last years of Lori's life, she attended Life Church. She became active in Bible Study Fellowship and enjoyed her weekly Bible studies. At the last meeting held in the spring, Lori shared that her cancer was slowly taking over her body and shared that she was prepared for the time that her earthly adventure would be coming to an end. She grew in her faith and was baptized this past spring. Even though she was unable to attend the meetings in person this fall, she was diligent to do her Bible study.
Lori is preceded in death by her parents, her maternal grandparents, Fred and Naomi Sumpter, and her paternal grandparents, Jesse and Lova Jones. Survivors include, her siblings, Mike and Anna Jones, Susan and Larry Steverson, Deana Worthington, David and Susie Jones, and Lisa and Garry Teahon. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews who she absolutely adored, Brent and Jennifer Jones, Shannon and Josh Hilbern, Justin Jones, Colin and Kayla Steverson, Kyle Steverson, Lana Steverson, Specialist Clay Steverson, Lauren Steverson, Layne and Matthew Mangus, Lyndi Steverson, Jeremy Prince, Larry Prince, Brittany and Kenneth Day, Amy and Dustin Lee, Amber Brewer and Donald Dew, Ashley Brewer, Timothy Brewer, Victoria Jones, Bridget Howell, Courtney Vaughn, Jesse and Kayla Teahon, and Colton Teahon. She is also survived by many great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lori had many friends who she loved and they loved her back. Her family would especially like to thank Roberta McKerlie. Roberta spent countless hours encouraging Lori and being a friend at all times. She was a true friend to the end.
During the last year of Lori's earthly life, she was cared for by Chrissy Watters, her hospice nurse. Chrissy made sure that Lori was well informed about her disease process and was made comfortable until the transition to Heaven. One of the last things Chrissy asked Lori was if she was ready to see Jesus, to which she replied "YES". Thank you Chrissy for loving Lori and being so kind to us, her family. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5: 6-8
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Crescent with Larry Steverson officiating. Burial will follow in the Crescent Cemetery.
