Joan O. Carlton, 73, of Davis, OK died May 18, 2008. She was born July 27, 1934 in Crescent, OK to Oreal and Zola (Nairn) Ryland.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Davis, OK.
A graveside service and interment was held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the Crescent Cemetery, Crescent, OK. Reverend D. Wayne Loftin officiated.
Joan O. Carlton entered this life July 27, 1934 to Orel and Zola (Nairn) Ryland in Crescent, Oklahoma. She entered into rest May 18, 2008 in Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 73 years.
Joan grew up in Crescent, Oklahoma where she played the piano at the Methodist Church while in high school. After attending college, she began her career as a secretary at Liberty National Bank and Trust in Oklahoma City and worked there until she and Wayne Carlton were married in 1962. They made their home in Midwest City, Florida and Missouri until moving to Davis, Oklahoma in 1986.
Joan began working as secretary and pianist for the First United Methodist Church in Davis in 1988 until she retired in 2002. In 2003, she again played piano for the church until her death. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Tuesday Study Club and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She was proceded in death by her parents: Orel and Zola Ryland; one sister; Joy Dietrich; three brothers; Cloyce, Bob, and Wallace Ryland.
She is survived by her husband: Wayne Carlton of Davis, OK: one daughter; Anita Nickels and husband, Clark, of Norman, OK; one son; Allen Wayne Carlton of Norman, OK; one brother; Merle Ryland of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren: Audi, Anrnie, and Randon Nickels.
Pallbearers were: Ray Roberts, Brian Dietrich, Donald Brittin, Bruce Folmnsbee, Clark Nickels and Bob Drake.
Honorary bearers included: John Crawford, Floyd Newman, Joe Pirkle, Bob Barnes and Joe Grimes.
Services were under the direction of Krien Funeral Home, Davis
