Cecil Raymond Brookshire
(December 29, 1915 - July 1, 2011)
Cecil Raymond Brookshire was born December 29, 1915 in Crescent, OK to Elmer and Mae Brookshire. He passed away July 1, 2011 in Haysville, KS at the age of 95 years.
In his youth he lived in Guthrie and at age 16 he got on at Santa Fe Railroad and worked on the paint crew. He mastered his cooking skills while working for the painting crew. He was known for making the “best biscuits”. He retired from Santa Fe and moved to Ark City, Kansas where he was a custodian at the high school. He married Opal later in life and they lived in Ark City and Oklahoma City. They lived there until Opals death. Cecil then came to Wichita, KS to be around his sisters. He lived independently until about 2 years ago. He then lived in the nursing home. He was a gentle, likeable man who had a generous spirit. He loved to tease and joke even when times were tough. He loved the Lord and attended numerous Church of Christ Churches. When his hearing went bad he took to reading his Bible for enjoyment. He was proud to say he had read it all the way through.
Survivors include 3 sisters, Helen, Cleo and Emma Jean. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Opal and 2 sisters, Maxine and Dorothy.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 5, 2011 graveside at Crescent Cemetery with Pastor Mark LeMarr officiating. Services are under the direction of Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent.
