Loren Dale McCorkle, Jr

Loren Dale McCorkle, Jr. was born February 19, 1943 in Fallis, Oklahoma to Loren Dale, Sr. “Jack” and Lola (Young) McCorkle. He passed away August 21, 2021 in Edmond at the age of 78.

Loren, known as Jr., grew up in Wellston where he attended school graduating with the class of 1961. He was an active classmate who helped plan his class reunions. Jr. was a full-time farmer who late in life could often be found visiting friends at the local gas station, Bev’s. Jr. farmed wheat and other crops as well as cattle until he went on the road driving a truck for the Teamsters Union.

Loren enjoyed country and western dancing where he met the love of his life, Mary Minick. They married in 2008 in Stillwater and built their home together in Wellston. They enjoyed traveling together, going to the casino, dancing, and attending their grandchildren’s school events. Jr. was an upbeat, friendly Christian man who never met a stranger.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lola McCorkle; sons, Timmy McCorkle, Tony McCorkle; stepson, Steve Black; sisters, Dorothy McCorkle, Beulah McCorkle, Helen Baker; brother, Lyle McCorkle. Survivors include his wife, Mary McCorkle of the home; stepdaughter, Denise Blakeney of the home; special nephew, Kyle McCorkle and his wife Meri of Wellston; stepdaughter, Kathryn and her husband Art Atkinson of Edmond; brother-in-law Art Minick of Oklahoma City; (8) grandchildren; (8) great-grandchildren and one on the way; running buddy and honorary grandson, Mason McCorkle; sisters, Hazel and her husband Kenneth Stone of Enid, Norma Williams of Edmond; along with other family and friends.

A graveside funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Wellston Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
