A member of “The Greatest Generation,” Betty L Moore, 94 was born February 7, 1926 in Tryon Oklahoma to William and Winnie Tomlinson Johnson. She passed away peacefully in Del City, OK on March 3, 2020. Before graduating from Tryon High School in 1943 she had already secured a job at Tinker Field for the Army Air Corp. She then went to Washington DC and worked in a department headed by General Hap Arnold in the Pentagon for the Army Air Corp notifying families of deaths and MIAs. Betty married Sergeant First Class Glen Moore on August 5, 1945 and they were married for 65 years. In 1948 Glen and his family was posted to Germany. They had four children who survive her: Robin, Glenda, Shannon, and Wayne. The family spent 22 years in the military being posted to Germany and several locations in the United States. Betty then went to work as an administrative assistant at Tinker Field for 20 years while going to College part time and eventually earning her Associate Degree. Betty became the state secretary of NAMI, a mental health organization after close family members struggled with mental illness. When she retired, she devoted so many hours to the Ronald McDonald House that she was named the volunteer of the year several years in a row. A strong supporter of higher education, Betty served on the scholarship committee for Tryon High School. The central focus for Betty was always her family which included her sons in law Ronald Radford and Russell Brown and spouses of her grandchildren, Dustin Giebel and Lisa Brown. She was devoted to her four grandchildren: Paul Radford, Rima Meadow, Tyler Brown, Valery Giebel and delighted in her great-grandchildren Ben, Penny and Harper, all of whom survive her. She is also survived by her beloved nieces Judy Jones, Linda Abercrombie, Janet Peatross, Beth Johnson and their children. She was preceded in death by her husband Sergeant Major Glen Moore in 2010. We cherish our memories of Betty as an exceptionally generous, kind and affectionate mother, grandmother, wife and friend. The memorial service will be held at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home in Del City on Tuesday March 10, at 11:00 AM.
