Nan Reed Morehouse

January 6, 1935 - May 24, 2026

Nan Morehouse, 91, passed away May 24, 2026, after a long illness. She was born on January 6, 1935, in Grand Prairie, Louisiana, the daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Reed.

Nan moved to Oklahoma with her sister, settling in Oklahoma City where she later met Alvus Earl Morehouse at a dance (he stated she could jitterbug better than anyone else he'd seen). They married in November of 1953, and their union produced three children.

Mom's desire to help and make a difference in other's lives landed her at Oklahoma State University where she pursued a degree in nursing. She graduated on the Director's Honor Roll in 1984. She loved to read, and to counter the stress of caring for the terminally ill, she spent countless hours in her yard gardening and planting flowers. She had it so well planned, something bloomed almost year-round. The inside of her house resembled a jungle; there were plants in every window.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Christopher Ray, and ex-husband Alvus, whom she remained close to until his death in 2022. She is survived by her two daughters, Annette Sewell of Oklahoma City, and Patricia (Bill) Strunk of Newalla, Ok.; granddaughters Christina (Travis) Good and Sarah Sewell.

A private graveside service will be held Friday, May 29, 2026. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
