Amber Danielle (Mackey) Leafty, 46, of Wellston, Oklahoma, leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. Her life was tragically cut short in a car accident on February 9, 2025, but her light will continue to shine through the family and friends who adored her. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, Amber had a heart as big as the sky and a soft spot for children and sea turtles. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, her boundless generosity, and the way she made everyone feel like family.
She had a gift for welcoming people into her heart and home. When her children's spouses joined the family, she invited them to call her "Mom" as soon as she knew they were "the one." And when someone jokingly called her "Mrs. Chief," the name stuck "eventually making its way onto a T-shirt "because Amber proudly stood by her husband, Johnny Leafty, and supported every member of the Luther Police Department. At her table, there was always room for one more, and on the hard days, she was always ready with a listening ear and a reassuring word. Amber loved both sunrise and sunset, whether it meant digging her toes into the sand at the beach or sitting quietly in a hunting blind with Johnny. Sometimes, they let the ducks fly and the deer saunter past, content to soak in creation's peaceful beauty. It was their time of worship, a retreat from the noise and busyness of life. Though she cherished those quiet moments, she also loved gathering with others to worship at Life.Church. Amber was born on October 8, 1978, and grew up in a happy home in Wellston with her parents, Pamela Jo and John Mackey, and her big sister, Rana. From her dad, she inherited a talent for practical jokes and not being easily rattled. From her mom, a dazzling smile and a zest for life. Johnny first noticed Amber in their high school biology class at Wellston. He sat behind her, tapping her chair until she asked the teacher to move her. But Johnny found a way to sit behind her again, and the pestering soon turned to flirting. He was enchanted by her joy, something that cannot quite be put into words but is instantly understood by those who knew her. Once Amber agreed to a date, they were inseparable. After high school and a beautiful wedding, their family quickly grew with the arrivals of Johnny Edward, Kaylynn Jewell, and Dallas Rose. When Johnny felt called to law enforcement, Amber was all in, supporting his dream while creating a home full of love and laughter. As their children married, Amber's joy multiplied. She was overjoyed when her son, Johnny, married Kelly just a few months ago. Kaylynn and her husband, Dakoda White, gave her the cherished title of "Grammy" with the births of Nora Faye, Theodore Leo, Ocean Jewell Belle, and Dakoda Joe Allen. Then Dallas and her husband, Dallas Walton, welcomed baby Walker. Whether it was zoo trips, surprise gifts, singing praise songs in the car, or epic snowball fights, Amber filled her grandchildren's childhoods with magic. Her family and friends are determined to continue her legacy, her kindness, her unwavering faith, and her ability to wake up in a good mood, if only to make someone else's day better. It is how they will move forward in a world without her, knowing she believed with all her heart that God has a purpose for everything. Amber was preceded in death by her mother, Pamela Jo Mackey; her grandparents, Bonita and Calvin Mackey; and her father-in-law, Leonard Leafty. She is survived by her loving husband, Johnny; her children, Johnny (Kelly) Leafty, Kaylynn (Dakoda) White, and Dallas (Dallas) Walton; her beloved grandchildren, Nora, Theodore, Ocean, Dakoda, and Walker; her father, John Mackey; her sister, Rana (Kenny) Camp; her mother-in-law, Beverly Ann Leafty; and her grandparents, Venita and Ronald Shaw, nieces, nephews, and many friends. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Wellston High School Gym, 701 Birch Street.
