Mark Leon Emerson

Mark Leon Emerson, 71, of Choctaw, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at his home with his wife Cindi Emerson by his side.

Mark attended grade school at White Rock School in Lincoln County and graduated from Harrah High School in 1971. Upon graduation, Mark worked for a local dairy for several years after which he worked for a painting contractor and equipment operator at Tinker Air Force Base and Oklahoma County.

Mark soon found his calling and ensuing career at Santa Fe Railroad, which spanned over 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who went on many hunting trips for quail, deer and turkey along with being an exceptional mechanic who could fix almost anything he set his mind to. He enjoyed playing golf for several years, even making his way to Pebble Beach. He loved animals and always had a deep connection with his pets. Mark also had the gift of "Gab", He never met a stranger.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Ace and Reba Cosette Emerson, and his nephew, Kyle Nickel. Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Cindi Emerson, stepson, Brent Barnes and partner, Alberto Barrientos, sisters, Ava Emerson and Reba Creech, brother, Jon Emerson and wife Maria, brother-in-law, Perry Creech; nieces, Lara Nickel, Kate and husband Sam Day, and great-nephew Kesh Day.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Rossville Cemetery, followed by a reception for family and friends at the Country Faith Church of the Nazarene. Memorial contributions can be made to your local animal shelter in Mark's name. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
