Samuel Eugene Lakins, 68, went home to be with the Lord on September 12, 2022, in Prague, Oklahoma. Eugene was born December 16, 1953 in Yuba City, California to Doyle and Dorothy (Gage) Lakins. The family moved to Oklahoma where he later graduated from Paden High School in 1972. In August 1982 he married the love of his life, Sherry Moses.
Eugene made a home in Prague and together with Sherry raised a family. He worked many years and retired from Wolverine in 2009. He was an active member at the First Baptist Church of Prague. Eugene cherished the time he spent with his family. He loved watching his kids and then grandkids play ball. He never missed a game! He could always be seen riding around town in his wheelchair, usually on a mission to spoil a grandchild. He was known for his love of watching old westerns and enjoyed a good game of PIG with his grandkids.
Eugene never complained and always had a witty comment ready to make people smile. He was a hard-working, caring man and was Dad and Papa to many. The true joy in his life was his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bryon Lakins. Left to cherish his memory are wife of 40 years, Sherry, son Dustin and daughter-in-law Amy Lakins, and daughter Samantha and son-in-law Baruck Strickland, grandchildren Eli, Brynlee, and Hattie Lakins, Gage, Kruz, Hudson, Holden, and Axel Strickland, all of Prague. Other survivors include one sister Kathy and brother-in-law Joe Batie of Miami, brother Gary and sister-in-law Terrie Lakins of Shawnee, and brother Ricky and sister-in-law Dorothy Lakins of Paden and a host of treasured cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Prague. Burial will immediately follow at Prague Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague. An online guestbook is available at www.parksbrothers.net.
