Ina Ruth Burney was born on December 6, 1929, in Prague, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Saturday, December 31, 2016, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 87.
Ina, the daughter of Floyd and Georgia (Collins) Sturmon, was a resident of El Reno. She married Charles "Rex" Burney on July 2, 1949. Earning both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree, Ina taught and mentored her students for 35 years in the El Reno Public School system, initially teaching second grade, then spending the last several years of her career teaching middle school mathematics. She also loved sewing and quilting for her family. Ina was an active, longtime member of the El Reno First Baptist Church. Her greatest joy was her family. Nothing gave her more pleasure than being with her children and grandchildren.
Ina's parents, husband, one daughter Marcia, two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Melodie Burney of Tulsa, Kevin and Kay Burney of Pewee Valley, Kentucky; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bill Elkins of El Reno; one sister Wanda Coleman of Prague; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 2:00 PM, at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Kevin Burney officiating. Interment will follow at the Prague Cemetery.
