Lifelong Chandler resident, Glen Harvey Wayland, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, in Oklahoma City at the age of 82. Glen was born in Chandler on October 18, 1942, to Garland and Lela (Porter) Wayland. He attended Springdale School through the 8th grade and graduated from Chandler High School in 1961.
In 1963, Glen met the love of his life, Judith Wright, and the two were married in 1964. They shared 61 wonderful years together, building a family and a legacy of love, hard work, and faith.
Raised on the family farm south of Chandler, Glen learned the value of hard work at a young age. He worked alongside his father and brothers on the farm and traveled north with wheat harvest crews for many summers.
After high school, Glen enlisted in the U.S. Army and later served full-time with the Army National Guard beginning in 1985. His career took him to the Oklahoma Military Department in Oklahoma City, Charlie Battery in El Reno, Bravo Battery in Seminole, and Headquarters in Chandler. He retired in 2002 as a proud Supply Sergeant, honored to have served his country.
Glen's dedication extended beyond the military. Over the years he worked in many trades, including oilfield roughneck, truck driving, heavy equipment operation, and carpentry, often holding multiple jobs while raising his family. In the 1970s, he and Judy began milking cows for her parents before establishing their own dairy, which they operated until 1983.
Following his retirement, Glen and Judy returned to the Wayland family home place, where he enjoyed life on the farm, often watching the animals and wildlife from his sunroom chair. Never one to stay idle, Glen later worked part-time with NAICO, Wayland Construction, and Lincoln County, where he served as Safety Director until retiring again at age 80 in 2023.
Glen's faith was central to his life. He grew up attending Forest Baptist Church and was baptized at Agra Church of the Firstborn, where he taught Sunday School and served faithfully. He also helped establish the Chandler Church of the Firstborn, where he served on the board since 1991. He was a proud member of Chandler Masonic Lodge #58, where he held many offices, including Worshipful Master. In February 2025, he received his 50-Year Membership Pin, a milestone that meant a great deal to him. Glen also served with the American Legion, helping honor veterans at Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies.
Those who knew Glen will remember his love for reading "especially westerns" and his playful sense of humor. He founded the Deep Fork Literary Society, inspiring friends and grandchildren to read Hank the Cowdog books, even arranging a trip to meet the author in Pawhuska.
Glen is an example to all of a life well lived.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; Brothers Bill, Garland Jr., John, and Mike Wayland; and Sisters Faye Long, Doris Dowell, Kathryn Merry, Wanda Ussleton, and Treva Parrott.
He is survived by his devoted wife Judy of the home; daughter Marsha and husband Damon Edminsten of Albuquerque, NM; son Mark and wife Trisha Wayland of Chandler, OK; grandchildren Ethan and Kaitlin Edminsten of Nampa, ID, Wyatt and Rachel Wayland of Chandler, Collin and Sara Edminsten of Boise, ID, Kalli and Eric Tidwell of Albuquerque, Audrie Wayland of Chandler, Orrin Edminsten of Albuquerque, and Rachel Wayland of Chandler; and great-grandchildren Lela, Harvey, and Henry Edminsten, Elijah Tidwell, and a baby girl Edminsten on the way. He is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law Linda Cloud, Tom and Janet Wright, Rick Wright, Shelly Wright, April Wayland, Vivian Wayland, Donna Wayland, and Alicia Wayland; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
A funeral will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, August 23 at Chandler First Baptist Church and interment will follow at Parkland Cemetery.
