Sherry A. Cagle passed peacefully from this life, surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at her home in Agra, Oklahoma. She was born at her grandpa Carl and grandma Bonnie's house in Cushing on March 18, 1954 to Tennessee and Morris Crow.
Sherry started kindergarten in Grand Rapids, Montana where Morris was stationed. Soon after Tennessee moved her and the girls back to Cushing, OK, where Sherry attended school until she graduated in May of 1972.
On June 18th, 1967 Sherry Crow was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn by Bro. Russel Rodgers at the McClary Pond (now by the High School) in Cushing. She loved being a young kid traveling to different bodies of church and just spending time with brethren. She remained steadfast in her faith until her death.
Sherry moved to Morgantown, Indiana after graduation where she felt God wanted her to live. She met Gregg Cagle and they were married May 5th, 1973 at Parkland, OK. To this union was born two daughters, Joy and April and one son, Mathew. Sherry loved children and it was very common for her to have her two nephews, Justin and Jeremy with her. One time she took the four kids to the park and a lady asked her if Joy and Jeremy were twins, she was expecting Mathew at that time.
Sherry started working while in high school cleaning houses and then for Gibble Oil Company. She attended Central Vo Tech in Drumright her junior and senior year for Computer Science. Her senior year, she won Miss FBLA then Miss Central Vo Tech 1972. She went to State competition, where she placed 1st, getting to go on to Nationals placing in the top.
As a single mom raising three children and being the sole provider was not an easy task, but Sherry dug her heels in and provided, never complaining. She went to work at the gas station on the turnpike at nights, later getting a job at the Bank of Cushing using her computer skills. She worked at the bank while going to Langston University. Upon graduating college, Kansas and Texas tried hard to get her to teach there but she chose Star Spencer High School until an opening became available at Agra High School, where she was more than a high school math teacher. Sherry loved teaching and children responded to her with respect. A lot of the time she spent was outside of the classroom tutoring and guiding young minds to formulate a solution. She went on many FFA trips sponsoring the girls (they got a lot of tales to tell of the fun they shared.)
The Class of 2008 honored Sherry by asking her to be their guest speaker (after she was blind) and one note she touched on was the fear she had of the dark as a small child, then she lost her eye sight to be in the dark every day and night and how she had to fight that fear of the dark. She even lived alone in her little house. Thankfully, she had her children, grandchildren, family, fellow students, and friends that never forgot her. If you were fortunate to be her friend you were blessed.
Sherry's oldest granddaughter, Summer Nack, had to do a report for her college class and she wrote about her grandmother. Summer called and went to Sherry for help doing her studies: Summer wrote a paper where she shared her thoughts, "My grandmother was Sherry Cagle, who taught at Agra, Star Spencer, Langston University held workshops and was taped for one of her lessons (for a teaching tool for other teachers". My grandmother was a spectacular teacher and many students held her to a very high respect because not only was she a great educator, but she cared very much and taught her students many life lessons. I always knew my grandmother was a wonderful educator but reading Mary's story just made me think on those traits of my grandmother so much more. When I was in elementary, my grandmother went completely blind literally overnight and still continued to teach high school math another year. Which to me is amazing, because that's how much she cared about education and her students.
Sherry was a humble, kind private person and didn't want any praise or fuss made over her. She lived a simple life and was very happy. Family came first with Sherry. Her children and grandchildren, Alex Cagle, Summer Nack, Clay and Victoria Mannis, Preston and Madison Cagle, and special companion her little lap dog, Lady and extended family were her life.
Sherry is preceded in death by her mother, Tennessee Crow; a very special grandson, Alex Cagle; Grandma Bonnie and Grandpa Carl Herrmann; and a dear brother, John Rossiter.
She is survived by her children, Joy and husband Kyle Mannis of Parkland, OK, April and husband Daniel Nack of Cushing, OK, Mathew and wife Amber Cagle of Agra, OK, and her "favorite daughter" the siblings referred to as Sister Dog "Lady" of the home; sister, Candace Rossiter of Agra, OK; grandchildren, Summer Nack, Clay Mannis, Victoria Mannis, Preston Cagle, and Madison Cagle; as well as many extended family members and nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
